Go behind the scenes of beautifully conceived Belgian project
For a century, Wintercircus in Ghent has been a hub for circus acts and entertainment. But now, with the vision of Tent CEO Louis Jonckheere, a new chapter is about to begin. The iconic space will be transformed into a cutting-edge venue for technology events and cultural performances. Sovilux served as audiovisual partner, developing an approach to match the project’s objective to bring flexibility and sustainability to a future-proof design that they elevated with the help of ILUMINARC’s innovative ILUMILINE ML.
With the integration of a ChamSys MagicQ Rack and centralized control system, they took the project to the next level. Despite challenges posed by the unique round atrium, Sovilux rose to the occasion and ingeniously lit up the curtains to create a stunning atmosphere. Their contribution to this exclusive project fills them with pride as they help give the building a renewed and purposeful identity.
Louis Jonckheere, CEO of Tent, the company behind Wintercircus, explains their new plan for this historic space:
“We are going have a mix here of several types of events. On the one hand, we’re going to have corporate events for our tech community, large companies doing conferences, tech talks, etc. But on the other hand, Wintercircus will also become a place for art installations, for cultural performances and music shows. We were looking for something that could make the space feel extremely immersive, color that could be dynamically programmed to work with music to create amazing experiences.”
“What I most like about the result is that if you want to make it feel like a circus again, or music installation, our light installation really makes that possible.”
System integration was planned by Alexis Verbeke of Sovilux, who actively thought about the overall concept and how to offer support throughout the challenging implementation of the new vision for Wintercircus:
“Since the atrium is round, there were some challenges with the acoustics that required the addition of curtains. To give that a twist, we downlighted the curtains with ILUMILINE ML. As a control system for this project, we used ChamSys MagicQ Rack and connected it to our centralized control system. We’re very proud to be part of this exclusive project because the building is getting a new purpose.”
